Hello friends!
For this blog post, I'm going to share a personal story.
So, my parents are originally from Spain, and so the majority of my extended family lives abroad. Every couple of years, we go and visit them, and the last time I went my parents trusted me enough to fly over by myself.
This was the Summer of 2014. I had already taken an uneventful flight from Dayton International Airport to Philadelphia (about 1 1/2 hours or so), and was texting my mom as I was boarding my international flight to Madrid. This flight is about 7 hours, and they're generally overnight flights; you arrive in Spain in the early morning (early afternoon U.S. time - there is a 6 hour time difference). Now, these planes are HUGE - usually big Boeing commercial airplanes - and in Coach, usually I dread the thought of being crammed in with small, screaming children and awkward adults in close proximity for so many hours.
However, as I stepped foot on the plane, I noticed something I had never witnessed before - my entire section of the plane was EMPTY. This is virtually unheard of for International flights in the month of June, especially to Madrid. I was so excited, because I was already thinking about how I could lay down and taken up an entire row and maybe even build a fort in SILENCE. I texted my mom a picture, and two seconds later I got this response:
"Julia, that really scares me that the plane is so empty!!! Are you on the right flight?! I don't want you to get kidnapped!"
Needless to say, if I was a mom I probably would have had the exact same reaction, but I double checked and I was on the right flight, and the (limited) number of other passengers were also as excited as I was.
I still don't know why the plane was so empty during the high travel season, but I can tell you that I took the best 7 hour nap ever.
